CEO addresses male involvement in African-American community
PTA NEWSWIRE - National PTA continues to be positioned as a thought leader nationwide. Most recently, EBONY Magazine,
arguably one of the most esteemed magazines in the African-American community, placed a guest column by National
PTA CEO, Byron V. Garrett. The column focused on the need and significance of male involvement in the African-American
community. It’s in the September issue of the magazine on
stands now. Below is an excerpt from the column.

“It's simple. Everyone—not just mothers, big mama's, aunties and girlfriends—needs to be accountable for raising and educating our children. This is a different mindset than there was back in the day, when "Pops" was the breadwinner while "Moms" took care of the kids. Back then, having a Black President was not even imaginable. But just as President Obama took the oath to become the 44th President of the United States, so too men are finally becoming more engaged in the education of their children…”
